Praise Him

Have you praised Him today?

The Him I am referring to is Jesus. Have you stopped today and just praised Him? Thanked Him?

Jesus deserves our praise all the time and not just as an after thought. You know how it is when something good happens and we say “I better praise Jesus for this”….we all have done this and we all do this. What would our lives look like if we continually praised Him? I believe we would be a whole lot happier.

We were created by God to worship Him and worship is praising and thanking Him. Don’t just praise Him on Sundays; praise Him every day for everything.

In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever. Selah  Psalms 44:8

If we don’t praise Him,God says that rocks would cry out; check it out:

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” 40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
Luke 19:37-40 (NIV)

We praise Him everyday because of His mercy we who believe in Him have eternal life. This is why we Praise Him.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

So back to our original question: Have you praised Him today?

What Has Happened To Christian Television

There is an ongoing disturbing trend going on in Christian Television across America and throughout the world. Pastors aren’t preaching the Word and in fact some never open the Bible at all.

They get in the pulpit and tell a story for 30 to 45 minutes on being positive and how you can prosper better known as the Prosperity Gospel. You know how it works; send in x amount of dollars as a seed and you will be rich in a week.

This one is out there as well: send in x amount of dollars and we will send you a prayer shawl or some other item. Sadly we are buying in to this everyday and churches are growing but I wonder what are they growing in? It’s not the Word of God because it’s not being preached.

Don’t get me wrong; there are some great preachers on television who love God and His people.

I want to be in a church where God’s Word comes first; where God is central and everything else hinges on that premise and I am blessed to be in a church like this.

Some churches are known for their worship and the preaching is secondary; we in America want to be entertained so if the worship is good and media is used; then we are happy.

There is nothing wrong with using media and I love great worship but I don’t attend church to be entertained; I don’t want fluff….I want Jesus.

Give me His Word, teach me His ways, allow me to grow deeper in a Life Group, allow me to serve.

Pastors; we have to preach His Word and not add or take away from it to make it say what we want because His Word says:

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
Revelation 22:18 (NIV)

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.  Matthew 5:18 (NIV)

We are to feed the sheep and not lead them astray for God’s Word says this:

I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.
Galatians 5:10 (NIV)

We are held accountable so when we teach or preach; let’s use the Word and plant the seeds and let God harvest.

A Prayer For The Day

of the day
and of the night,

in me there is darkness,
but with you there is light.

I am alone,
but you will not leave me.

I am weak,
but you will come to my help.

I am restless,
but you are my peace.

I am in haste,
but you are the God of infinite patience.

I am confused and lost,
but you are eternal wisdom
and you direct my path,
now and forever,

(Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

2012 Challenge

I started this year  by challenging myself to grow closer to God, deeper with God, and more devoted to God.

I am doing decent in these areas but there is always room to grow and I want to honor God in all these disciplines. Our Pastor is challenging us to read a chapter of the Bible every day and this has been a blessing. I am reading more than that one chapter and His Word is good.

I also challenged myself to read ten books this year as well. So far I have read three and currently reading my fourth. I am saying all this not to brag but to urge you to challenge yourself this year to learn all you can, read all you can and see what God will do in and through you.

Challenge yourself to read His Word; start with a chapter a day and I promise you that you’ll be reading more than that one chapter before long.

Challenge yourself to pray more; just talk to God everyday.

Challenge yourself to read more; enrich your mind.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

Psalms 119:105 (NIV)

God is our refuge; read His Word.

Where We Spend Our Money

Today all across America churches received tithes and offerings and some churches had a response and others didn’t.

All across America churches are hurting financially. Times are tough as people have lost jobs and are unemployed and tithes have declined.

We do our best to pay our bills, buy groceries, buy gas which keeps going up and etc. I have noticed though that we will buy things we want and we still go out to eat but our tithes still decline.

What does this say about our love for God? Let’s look at some statistics of where we spend our money from the website listed below:

Pets: In 2007, it is estimated that Americans will spend over $40 billion on their pets.

Weight Loss: It is estimated that by 2010, Americans will spend over $60 billion on weight-loss programs.

Wow; that is a lot of money on pets and weight loss so how much do we give to the church:

Few Support the Church: Only one-third to one-half of U.S. church members financially support their churches.

Tithing: 9% of American “born-again” adults tithed in 2004.

Sunday Offerings: The average amount of money given by a full or confirmed member of a U.S. Christian church in 2004 was $691.93. This comes to an average of $13.31 per week.

WOW: Do you see what I am seeing? We care more about pets and weight loss that we do our local church. Listen to me I am not saying it is wrong to care about our pets and to try to manage our weight.

What I am saying is there are people dying and going to hell right outside of our church doors and we are spending our money on pets and weight loss instead of tithing to our churches.

We have our priorities all mixed up. There are poor people everywhere and I am not just talking physically poor but spiritually poor. If we are not tithing how can our churches minister to them? What does this say to God? My pets and my weight loss are more important than you….. Wow

What ever we love is what we spend (give)  our money to.

I have a question for you: Where does love start? God yes God it starts in Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

God is the beginning of love; He is love so how can we not give back to Him? It is His money anyways.

People need help; they are in need:

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.  1 John 3:16-18 (NIV)

We need to love with actions (our tithing) to our church and to God so we can spread the Gospel.

Where are your priorities? Who is first in your life?

Let’s do our part and help a brother in need.
