Looking Firmly at the Cross of Christ « J.C. Ryle Quotes

I had to post this today after I read this and realized the Cross is where we must look and not look at this world. Come Lord Jesus Come

Looking Firmly at the Cross of Christ

Look at the cross, think of the cross, meditate on the cross, and then go and set your affections on the world if you can. I believe that holiness is nowhere learned so well as on Calvary. I believe you cannot look much at the cross without feeling your will sanctified, and your tastes made more spiritual. As the sun gazed upon makes everything else look dark and dim, so does the cross darken the false splendor of this world. As the taste of honey makes all other things seem to have no taste at all, so does the cross seen by faith take all the sweetness out of the pleasures of the world. Keep on, everyday, looking firmly at the cross of Christ.~ J.C. Ryle

Today is all about forever. Have you thought about forever? How long is forever? Is forever more than a span of lifetime?

Our lives are not forever; we live and die no matter what we do to prolong the aging process: diets; work outs, surgeries. We still die. The Bible says we will die:

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
Hebrews 9:27 (ESV)

So nothing is forever; nothing lasts forever; for example: your money will not last, food will not last, cars will not last, clothes and etc.

But there is good news: Something does last forever; check out what the Bible says:

For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalms 100:5 (ESV)

The Bible says that the Lord is good and His love endures forever… and then it says His faithfulness continues to all generations…

That should give us hope; if we know Him as our Lord and Savior we know that He will always love us no matter what. We know that He is faithful and will be after we pass on through the generations after us. What a mighty God we serve.

When we die as son or daughter of God; we will live forever with Him. I like that don’t you?

Everything we have now or do now is temporary but if we are saved we have eternal life. That is all that matters. It is forever.

Great Quotes About God’s Word

Believe God’s word and power more than you believe your own feelings and experiences.   Author: Samuel Rutherford

It is a great thing, this reading of Scriptures! For it is not possible to ever exhaust the mind of the Scriptures. It is a well that has no bottom.

Author: John Chrysostom

The first and almost the only book deserving universal attention is the Bible…the Bible is the book of all others, to be read at all ages, and in all conditions of human life.

Author: John Quincy Adams

God’s Word; the Bible: Do you read it?
If not you should. It’s our life line, our map to this incredible journey called life. It’s full of miracles, healings, love, death and resurrection.
It’s the all time best seller. So why wouldn’t you want to read it?
I want to challenge you today; read it (the Bible) for five minutes a day. I bet it will turn in to 10 minutes and 15 minutes before you know it. Ask God what He is telling you while you read His story.
It will change your life. It gives you hope. It points you to the One who can save you: Jesus!!!!
What are you waiting for? Quit reading my blog and go read your Bible.

Great Truth

The Things That Please God

God approves and honors heart-religion in the present life. He looks down from Heaven, and reads the hearts of all people. Wherever He sees . . .

heart-repentance for sin,

heart-faith in Christ,

heart-holiness of life,

heart-love to His Son, His law, His will, and His word

. . . wherever God sees these things, He is well pleased.

~ J.C. Ryle
