What Has Happened To Christian Television

There is an ongoing disturbing trend going on in Christian Television across America and throughout the world. Pastors aren’t preaching the Word and in fact some never open the Bible at all.

They get in the pulpit and tell a story for 30 to 45 minutes on being positive and how you can prosper better known as the Prosperity Gospel. You know how it works; send in x amount of dollars as a seed and you will be rich in a week.

This one is out there as well: send in x amount of dollars and we will send you a prayer shawl or some other item. Sadly we are buying in to this everyday and churches are growing but I wonder what are they growing in? It’s not the Word of God because it’s not being preached.

Don’t get me wrong; there are some great preachers on television who love God and His people.

I want to be in a church where God’s Word comes first; where God is central and everything else hinges on that premise and I am blessed to be in a church like this.

Some churches are known for their worship and the preaching is secondary; we in America want to be entertained so if the worship is good and media is used; then we are happy.

There is nothing wrong with using media and I love great worship but I don’t attend church to be entertained; I don’t want fluff….I want Jesus.

Give me His Word, teach me His ways, allow me to grow deeper in a Life Group, allow me to serve.

Pastors; we have to preach His Word and not add or take away from it to make it say what we want because His Word says:

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
Revelation 22:18 (NIV)

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.  Matthew 5:18 (NIV)

We are to feed the sheep and not lead them astray for God’s Word says this:

I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.
Galatians 5:10 (NIV)

We are held accountable so when we teach or preach; let’s use the Word and plant the seeds and let God harvest.

Keep it real

Today is all about forever. Have you thought about forever? How long is forever? Is forever more than a span of lifetime?

Our lives are not forever; we live and die no matter what we do to prolong the aging process: diets; work outs, surgeries. We still die. The Bible says we will die:

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,
Hebrews 9:27 (ESV)

So nothing is forever; nothing lasts forever; for example: your money will not last, food will not last, cars will not last, clothes and etc.

But there is good news: Something does last forever; check out what the Bible says:

For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalms 100:5 (ESV)

The Bible says that the Lord is good and His love endures forever… and then it says His faithfulness continues to all generations…

That should give us hope; if we know Him as our Lord and Savior we know that He will always love us no matter what. We know that He is faithful and will be after we pass on through the generations after us. What a mighty God we serve.

When we die as son or daughter of God; we will live forever with Him. I like that don’t you?

Everything we have now or do now is temporary but if we are saved we have eternal life. That is all that matters. It is forever.

First Week Review

Hey everybody,

Today is day 5 of a challenge my Pastor gave us last Sunday at church (Pathway Fellowship Church) to read a chapter of the Book of John each day for 21 days. Why 21 days you ask? There are 21 chapters which equals 21 days. Check out our church website by clicking on the link.

I really love reading and what better to read than God’s Word. This challenge is opening my eyes to new insights  as I  read each chapter and just marinate in God’s Word and praying over His Word. Are you reading God’s Word; if not I pray you start. Everything we face is covered in the Bible.

Look at some of the verses in the book of John and marinate with me:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1 (ESV)

Wow now reference that with Genesis 1:1

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

John 2:19 (ESV)

Jesus was talking about His body; not a building. Remember He was crucified and on the third day; He was resurrected.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (ESV)

This is one of most well known verses; most people can say this verse by heart. This is the gospel message.

28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”

John 4:28-29 (ESV)

Wow this is an incredible picture. A Samaritan women asked by Jesus to get Him some water as Jesus is a Jew. This was unheard of; they despised each other; Samaritans and Jews. This is how Jesus works though. He offered her eternal life and she accepted it and left her water jars and went and told everybody she could. You see what we think is important doesn’t really matter if we don’t know Jesus. She came for water to cook with, to drink and to wash clothes and she got so much more that the water jars wasn’t important any more, she left them in a flash and went and evangelized.  That is our Jesus.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
John 5:24 (ESV)

Have you heard God’s Word? Do you believe what it says? If you answered yes to these then you are a child of God and I am rejoicing with you.

If you aren’t in church or you are not reading the Bible I pray you start today. Find a local church and plug-in to God and watch how He will change your life for ever.

So when this challenge is over I will still read a chapter a day from another book of God’s Word. We need daily intake of His Word just like we need daily intake of food.

Thanks to Pastor Rich for keeping God’s Word front and center in our lives. 2012 is going to be exciting.

Miracles Upon Miracles

Have you ever thought about the miracles that are listed in the Bible? There are a lot and each one is so interesting.

For example; when Jesus turned the water into wine in John Chapter 2; He didn’t touch the jugs or water; He spoke and the water turned into wine.

The wine wasn’t cheap wine; it wasn’t mediocre. It was the best. Read it for your self.

7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
John 2:7-10 (ESV)

Jesus doesn’t do things mediocre; He doesn’t do things hap hazardly. Jesus does things (miracles) completely; 100%; with purpose.

The Bible only lists the miracles that God wanted us to know about. There were a whole lot more. Don’t take my word for it; read what God’s Word says about the other miracles. I have the verse listed below for you.

Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.  John 21:25 (ESV)

See what I am talking about? The world could not hold all the books of Jesus miracles; wow.

Jesus is still doing miracles every day; people are saved, healed, fed, clothed and etc.

Don’t give up hope; because Jesus is working.

I Love To Read

One of my greatest passions is reading….growing up i used to read Westerns by Louis L’amour….his books were so entertaining and kept my attention for hours….

I also used to read a lot of mystery books as I tried to figure out who was behind the killings….now I like to read any books that are Christian Fiction and one of my favorite authors is Terri Blackstock…..She is an excellent writer.

I am currently reading Radical by David Platt, pastor of the Church at Brook Hills…..all I can say is WOW…..this book will open your eyes and make you think “Am I willing to be radical for God?” Do whatever it takes?

Click on the banner below to learn more about this book and who knows; you might even go Radical with me….

Radical | A book by David Platt

But my all time favorite book and the one I read every day is God’s Word “The Bible”…….

His Word is amazing and fills my soul, sweeter than honey,  sharper than a two-edged sword; that is what His Word is….

So when I read the Bible I pray this first:

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
Psalms 119:18 (NIV)

Happy reading and keep it real
